Saving the planet starts at home -- so many Americans are looking for ways to make their own lives more "green." That's why we're launching Sierra Club Radio. Our mission is to offer tips and tell stories we all can use as consumers, as citizens, as neighbors, and as parents to make responsible choices, to connect to the growing environmental community.

The Sierra Club is a grassroots based nonprofit volunteer/member-supported, public interest organization that promotes conservation of the natural environment through education and by influencing public policy decisions-legislative, administrative, legal, and electoral. Community Presentation for the Whole Family Treasure Hunt to Learn How to Live with Wildlife Saturday, June 15th, 1:00-4:00 p.m., Sands Point Preserve, 127 Middleneck Rd., Port Washington Come anytime during these hours and do the project at your leisure after a brief talk. There is also a bee program from 10:00-1:00 the same day and the Treasure Hunt will follow. Outdoor educator Mary Miller will give a short introduction and then a map for families to go out on the many trails in the preserve on a Treasure Hunt. They will learn about different animals and what we do that hurts them and how we can change our bad habits and common misconceptions. Bring old cell phones and batteries for recycling. Searingtown Rd. becomes Port Washington Blvd. & then Middleneck Rd. Learn more at www.LongIslandGreenHomes.ORG the Long Island Sierra Club Cell Phone Return Program Did you know: Recycling 1 million cell phones is equivalent to taking 1,368 automobiles off the road for a full year. Please spread the word and help the LISC's effort to keep toxic materials contained in mobile phones from leeching into our most valuable resource – our drinking water supply. The Sierra Club L.I. group can recycle your unwanted phones. Our recycling company is in the United States and they employ only US workers. Phones that can be repaired, are repaired and sent to those in need. Phones that cannot be repaired, are decomposed into their base components. All such components are processed here in the US and all plastics, metals, minerals, etc. are reused when and where possible. Nothing is sent to a foreign country. And you don’t have to worry about your personal information being stolen. Our recycling company guarantees your data is wiped from the phone before anything else is done with it. To recycle your unwanted phones, send them to Jane Fasullo, 68 Old Field Rd, Setauket NY. They will be sent along with others in a single shipment to save postage. Help is needed tracking town and county environmental legislation, attending town meetings, and researching environmental issues. Leaders and activists needed too. We train you how, where and when to do the monitoring while supplying you with a kit that enables you to gather the data. It's an outdoor job and it must be done.
