Minutes of Monthly meeting - June 27, 2006

1) TREASURERS REPORT- S. Burns: Niagara Group balance of $2,345.87; Foundation Account contains $3,775.16. Steve mentioned that Foundation account has not been reimbursed for expense since July 2004. He has sent a letter to National Sierra Club. $159.00 expended for tent for boothing. Tent used for Earth Day at Buffalo Zoo.

2) MEMBERSHIP REPORT- S Burns: 2,350 individual members, 2302 households.

3) CWM WASTE SITE- M. Stroh: Charles Lamb contacted Mike Stroh. Both New York State Senate and Assembly have passed legislation to stop expansion of toxic waste sites in New York State. This was accomplished after intensive lobbying by RRG, opponents of the CWM waste dump in Lewiston-Porter. RRG lobbied legislators in Albany and fielded extensive telephone lobbying campaign.

Charles had requested letter to be sent to Governor Pataki to sign legislation. Motion to send letter proved unanimously by five members present at meeting. M. Stroh to sign and mail letter.

4) ZOAR VALLEY- Discussion of recent protection of old growth forest in Valley by New York State.

5) ATLANTIC CHAPTER- Ex-Com Meeting: Chapter voted to oppose project to extend the electric transmission lines from northern border of New York to New York City area. $1,500.00 voted to oppose Brooklyn Yard development project. Discussion of reducing size of Chapter Executive Committee. Richard Lippes and others discussed history of balancing upstate and downstate interests in Chapter.

6) "AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH"- L. Kaszubski: Discussion of Al Gore and movie. Scientific basis of movie approved by Nation Academy of Sciences.
