Population

A sustainable planet is unattainable unless we address overpopulation both in the United States and abroad. "The human population is living far beyond its means and inflicting damage to the environment that could pass points of no return, according to a major report issued Thursday by the United Nations." (NY Times 10/26/07)

We want governments to recognize and form policy regarding overpopulation.  We want VOLUNTARY family planning -- with knowledge and contraception available to all. We want the status of women in developing countries raised so they can determine their ideal number and spacing of children.

We are the only activist group in the City that works specifically on issues related to population stabilization.

Not all members are able to attend meetings on a regular basis; however, all are looking for a way to participate actively and to stay in touch with people who have common concerns.

We advocate legislation and government action supporting our cause -- eg. recent NY refusal to accept money for "abstinence only" sex education -- in favor of "real sex ed."

We have long pushed for increased money for grass roots family planning programs abroad.

What and how much we do depends on our members.
New members are most welcome.
