Website Privacy Policy of the Atlantic Chapter of Sierra Club, November 11, 2009 modification of Sierra Club National Privacy Policy last revised September 16, 2008.
This is the Privacy Policy of the website of the Atlantic Chapter of Sierra Club. This Privacy Policy applies only to information gathered through this site and does not necessarily reflect our practices with respect to information gathered through other means.
This Privacy Policy is part of the terms and conditions which are set forth in our Terms and Conditions. By using this site, you are accepting the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use our site. Atlantic Chapter reserves the right to modify or amend the terms of our Privacy Policy from time to time without notice. Since we respect users' privacy, we would not have any way to know who to notify that things had changed since they last used this site, but we will at least try to make noticeable on this site that the Privacy Policy has changed. If you continue to use our site after we post changes to this Privacy Policy, it will mean that you accept those changes.
Normal website usage:
Atlantic Chapter has a firm commitment to Internet privacy.
But be aware that for any web browsing to work some minimum information must be given to the web site by the web browser. The information we collect from a normal basic web site visit includes only the name of your internet service provider, the browser and type of machine you are using, the web site that referred you to us, the pages you request, and the date and time you request those pages; and not, for example, who you are or personal information about you. We use this information to generate statistics and measure site activity to improve the usefulness of the site to our visitors and to us.
If we want to collect any other information we will show that at the place in our web site where we want to do the collection.
Cookies:
Cookies may be used at any place in our website, and where they are actually used may change from time to time. We will try to make our website usable without cookies, so browsers who disallow cookies can enjoy our website. If there is some feature which does require cookies, we will identify that there.
Collection and use of personally identifiable information:
Atlantic Chapter may collect email addresses and other personally identifiable information about visitors when such data is voluntarily submitted to us. For example, our site may use order forms for visitors to request information, products, and services, or to become a member. Contact information from an order form is used to send orders and information about the Sierra Club to those requesting it. Financial information is used to bill visitors in connection with their orders. Some activist functions of our site may also require users to give personal information. We use this information to make these functions more effective and to provide participants with additional information about conservation and other issues.
We may occasionally have third parties perform services on our behalf, such as data processing, marketing, analytics, credit card processing, shipping or stocking orders, providing customer service, advocacy and outreach, and so on. These third parties may have access to personal information about you, but only as needed to perform their services for the Sierra Club and they are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of the personal information.
We may also use or disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to applicable law or comply with legal process served on us or this site; (b) protect or defend our rights or property, this site, or our site users; and (c) act under emergency circumstances to protect the personal safety of us or of our affiliates or agents, site users, or the public.
When we collect personal information, we use industry accepted data collection and encryption methodologies in an attempt to ensure the secure collection and transmission of sensitive user information. While we try our best to safeguard your personal information once we receive it, no transmission of data over the Internet or any other network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
Atlantic Chapter does not sell or otherwise disclose your personal information outside the Sierra Club. However, if you become a member of the Sierra Club, some information on our membership lists, such as your name and mailing address, may be exchanged with other organizations. Members may opt out of such membership list exchanges by following these Opt-Out Procedures.
"Remember me" feature:
On some of our forms, we may offer an optional "remember me" feature that can recall your information for greater ease on subsequent visits to the site.
