Get on the bus! Climate Rally in DC Feb. 17

Forward on Climate

The Rochester bus is Full!
If you'd like to be connected (via e-mail) with others who are seeking to carpool to DC for the rally,
please contact lci_msw@hotmail.com.

In November 2011, about 47 local folks went from Rochester by bus to participate in the Keystone XL protest rally in Washington DC.  That rally succeeded in delaying the pipeline decision.
See
this inspiring video for footage of that hot July day in DC, and for why this is so important.

Now it’s time to pick that fight back up.

By all accounts, this WILL BE the biggest climate rally to date!  Don’t you want to be there, to say you helped make it so?
When: February 17th, Noon
Where: The National Mall, Washington D.C.
Who: 350.org, The Sierra Club, and the Hip-Hop Caucus are the sponsors
Why: To tell Barack Obama it's time to lead in the fight against climate change, beginning with the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.
Check out what 350.org’s Bill McKibben says, sign up with the rally organizers, and get more info
here.

Bus Details, subject to change:

Probably  leaving from the Bushnells Basin Park n’ Ride

Gather at 2am Sunday, Feb. 17, leave at 2:30am

Arrive back at departure location around 1am Monday, Feb. 18

COST to riders:  Great news!  Sierra Club is helping us with funding--  enough to cover half of the cost of the bus!  So, instead of a $60/per seat fee, we are able to offer seats at only $30 each!  However, we anticipate that some folks still will not be able to afford that fee.  So…. please pay what you can.  If you can pay $30, please do.  If you can pay more to help fund another rider, please do!  If you are in true financial distress and want to go, please just pay SOMETHING.  On our ride, we will also need to collect money for a tip for the driver, usually about $200 total from all riders.

Can’t go, but can help to subsidize the bus? Per the above, we are in real need of funding if we are to fill the bus.If you know that climate change is the biggest challenge of our times, and that fully harvesting the Alberta Tar Sands for oil to be sold abroad is a huge mistake, then please help with your financial contribution. Please send donations to the same payee and same address noted below for bus riders. Donations of any size are greatly, greatly appreciated. They are essential to making this bus a go.

Please e-mail lci_msw@hotmail.com  with details of your donation-- how much, and when we can expect it.  Thank you!

Rider fees and donations must be received by Feb. 11.  But please don’t wait—please send what you can now.
