ABOUT US GROUP LOCATION The Susquehanna Group of the Sierra Club is an entirely volunteer organization consisting of all of the members of the national Sierra Club who reside in the counties of Broome, Chenango, and Delaware counties, and part of Tioga and Otsego counties. Adjoining groups (clockwise from south) are: Northeastern, PA; Finger Lakes, Iroquois, Mid-Hudson and Ramapo-Catskill. All Sierra Club groups in New York State are part of the Atlantic Chapter of the Sierra Club. MISSION It is the mission of the Susquehanna Group to foster (within its territorial limits) the mission of the Sierra Club, as stated in its bylaws: To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; to practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives. FUNDING We are funded in part by a portion of the membership dues paid to the national Sierra Club. Most of our financial resources, however, are raised through our own fund-raising efforts, primarily the sale of Sierra Club calendars. Our greatest expense is printing and mailing our newsletter, the Susquehanna Sierran, which keeps our members informed of group activities. MONTHLY PROGRAMS We hold monthly programs for members and the public from September through June. Topics and speakers are local, regional and national. OTHER ACTIVITIES Susquehanna Group schedules many activities each year. Some have serious purposes such as to investigate wetlands problems, while others are simply to enjoy the outdoors together. JOIN THE SIERRA CLUB All who share our interest in the environment are welcome to get involved: You can join Sierra Club using the link in the menu to the left. When you join from this website of the Susquehanna Group, a larger portion of the membership fee is returned to the Susquehanna Group, allowing us to fund more local programs and activities. If you are near enough to Binghamton, NY, to be interested in Susquehanna Group activities, check out our current activities calendar in our newsletter and we will be delighted to give you a membership form.
